Potato recipes
In most parts of the world, potatoes are a staple food thanks to its versatility while cooking. There are hundreds, and probably thousands of ways to cook potatoes. Similarly, you can combine potatoes with other ingredients to produce unmatched and mouthwatering recipes.
The usual ways of preparing potatoes are simply coking them in boiling water, then there are mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, stewed, baked or chipped potatoes and more. There also many different sorts of potatoes and some are more suitable for some foods and others for other types of meals. For instance russet potato is great for baking, frying, mashing and roasting. Red potatoes are best for boiling, Long whites are good for for boiling, baking, roasting and frying. New potatoes are delicious for baking etc…
One easy to do recipe is the whipped potato recipe. This constitutes easy, plain mashed potatoes mixed with butter, milk and seasonings. The ingredients are around 8 medium sized potatoes, either a 1/3 or ” cup of milk, a cup of butter and salt and pepper to taste.
This recipe is very easy. You need to cook the potatoes so first peel them and cut them into big pieces. Put them in a saucepan and cover them with water. turn the heat on and wait for them to boil then let them simmer for 15 or 20 minutes until the potatoes are done. When potatoes are cooked drain the water and beat the potatoes in the saucepan. In another pan melt the butter and milk and then add them to the potatoes. Use a mixer to beat the potatoes until they become fluffy.
Next I will give you a recipe that you probably all know. but there is a little secret to it. French fries, you know them. You need to peel the potatoes and cut them into stripes. Choose the size that you like for your French fries. Now comes the trick. Soak the potatoes in ice cold water. Leave them there for at least on hour. This way you will get rid of some of the starch and your fries will be much more crunchy. Next you need to heat the oil to 375 degrees and then fry the potatoes until they are golden brown. Make sere that you drain them and dry them before you put them in oil. Otherwise you can get burned. Add salt at the end and they are done!
There are a few more tricks that I can share. Like if you are making mashed potatoes and you want them to be really rich you can cook them in skimmed milk instead of in water. Or if you want your baked potatoes to have a crispy skin, rub some oil or butter on them before you bake them.
It is cool to add a little twist to your potato recipes. A cool thing about potatoes is that all people eat them and you don’t have to worry if your visitors will like them or not. So if you are in trouble and don’t know what to cook, choose on the the potato recipes.
