How To Take The Decadence Out Of Eating Desserts
You know you desire it. But for some reasons, you just can’t. Sweets are truly enticing just by looking at it. How much more alluring it can be if you sink your teeth into its soft, succulent, dark cake? The downside of eating those rich desserts is that it would surely wreck your hard work at the gym. You then wonder, is there a way you can eat desserts without gaining pounds on the weighing scale?
No and yes.
There isn’t a sure answer because what works for some may not work for others. Don’t be puzzled if a pal can eat a whole cake for dessert and not worry about his or her weight, but you can’t even finish a half of tart without feeling the result on the weighing scale the next day. So for us who always need to check our weight but still lust for desserts, let’s just try to make desserts a little healthier for us.
To start with, take a healthy meal before taking your dessert. It just wouldn’t do if your main lunch and dessert are both unhealthy. At least make your meal as healthy as possible so you can reward yourself with a sinfully exquisite sweet later.
If you are going to prepare your own dessert, then include lots of healthy ingredients. Fill it with more nutritious items like fruits over less nutritious ones like sugar. If you are buying the dessert, look for those with more healthy ingredients. Also, look for labels with “low fat,” “low calorie,” “no fat,” etc. It’s like eating sweets and cheating calories at the same time.
Get your dessert in tiny sizes. Have you seen those elegant desserts served at restaurants and bakeshops? They are like the Mini-Me’s of a full cake but they are actually less than a normal piece. They look great, though, and still very appetizing. Try to eat yours in those petite sizes. They still taste the same, but you are just consuming an average slice.
And finally, try to eat sinful desserts during special affairs only. Think of it this way, you are just making a dessert more special by eating them during special occasions. If you consume them daily, as unbelievable as this may sound, you might lose interest in them because they are not “off-limits” to you anymore. Eating the sweetest sweets during special days doesn’t mean going missing desserts altogether every meal. Sweet desserts can be fruits in parfait or yogurt. Still has the goodness of a dessert without the guilt feelings.
Just like a good book, a meal isn’t done without a sweet conclusion. You may have just had the fullest feast in your life or the not-so-special dinner, but a meal isn’t complete without desserts.
