More Boomers Begin Creating Healing Spaces At Home With Steam Showers, Heated Towel Rails And Aromatherapy
At first, it may sound odd that a small piece of hardware attached to the wall near your bath or shower could have an impact on your sense of well being. How can heated towel rails be anything more than a simple luxury designed for the very wealthy? So by now you’re probably laughing a little and thinking, “How the heck can installing heated towel rails, in my bath, have a positive impact on my state of well being? Isn’t achieving a heightened sense of well being more attuned to exercises associated with yoga and meditation?”
In the book, “The A-Z Steps to a Richer Life”, author Deepak Chopra, M. D., compares letters of the alphabet to steps that are essential in creating a healthier, wealthier and happier life. In his words, the letter “R” means to ‘receive’. Chopra goes on to tell us that learning to ‘receive’ graciously is as important as giving to others.
Most of us would agree that knowing how to ‘receive’ is as important as giving to others. While often accused of being a ‘me-first’ generation, most Boomers would agree that caring for oneself is essential in being healthy enough to give more to others. Now at a time when Boomers were supposed be retiring, many are actually realizing that they’ll have to work harder in their senior years just to make ends meet. Faced with investments gone bad in the market, some Boomers who had retired at a relatively young age are being forced back to work in an attempt to salvage a small percentage of the assets that they had spent decades working hard to build.
With economic conditions such as they are, some aging Boomers who sat behind desks most of their lives are being called into work that pays less and demands more physical stamina. Aching backs, stiff knee joints and arthritis are hard enough to handle as one ages. For some, even something as sedentary as sitting at a computer for a couple of hours can make a back or neck very stiff. Those being forced back to work in their senior years are likely seeking more holistic means to help alleviate pain and improve their quality of life.
Many Boomers worked fifteen and twenty hour days in their twenties and thirties. Many worked to build a middle class lifestyle during times where transient recessions and inflationary periods made it necessary for both parents or spouses to work outside of the home. Many looked forward to annual vacations or several mini-vacations throughout each year. Little getaways to hike, relax, meditate and ‘spa’ made long hours at the office bearable.
Imagine waking up every morning knowing that a moment of peace and tranquility resides right in your own home. What would it feel like to have warm towels available at your fingertips after your morning shower? You hear soft ‘spa-music’, you smell a light scent of spa-like aromatherapy and an assortment of fine lotions awaits you on the vanity. Add a small cooler of filtered cucumber or pineapple water to the picture and soon you’re not in your dingy old bathroom anymore. You’re transported back to a space where you felt cared for, happy and healthier.
Making small changes to your bathroom will create an at home spa-like haven. Go a few steps further and invest your vacation money into actually creating a more luxurious spa at home, through a remodeling process, and you’ll also be adding to the value of your home’s property. Purchasing a few small luxuries, installing a couple heated towel rails and piping in a little spa-like scent and sound may just open up a new chapter in your life. There has never been a better time to begin giving yourself small gifts that will give you back a sense of well being and the satisfaction of money well spent.
