Microwave Ovens, Buying Your Best Choice
It was back in the year’46 and running some experiments on radar and related studies, Dr. Percy Spencer would make a discovery. While using the vacuum tube magnetron he noticed that a candy bar that was in his pocket melted. That made him curious so he placed some popcorn kernels near the tube to watch in amazement as they would begin to pop.
The next morning he and an assistant would try placing an egg next to the tube. As they closely watched the egg started to shake and tremor. The assistant trying to get a better look moved in closer only to have the egg explode all over him. It was then that they knew they had something great!
In more experimenting Dr. Spencer would make a metal box that he could place around the tube. He noticed that there was a lot more energy located in that metal box. Thus creating the first microwave oven, and an idea that would make billions over the years. Creating a commercial use microwave the first one came out that year. It stood 5 and a half feet tall, and weighed over 750 pounds. The cost of that commercial oven was $5, 000.
It was a big seller; companies just didn’t want to spend that much money on something that was new. Plus in order to use it a plumbing line would need to be run to the oven. That’s because the tube inside needed to be water cooled.
Then came the first radarange, this was made for homes, unlike the first commercial use microwave that had been produced. At least the price was a bit less expensive only around $2, 000 to $3, 000 each. While the prices would go down through the years until now you can buy a microwave for sometimes $100 and get a nice buy.
When you need to buy a microwave now you are maybe going to spend $200. But in many cases you will pay a lot less money. If every home in the United States doesn’t have one of these items, it’s amazing. It’s the perfect way to make a quick meal and be out the door again for many people.
Comparing those prices is a must when you are planning on buying a new microwave. Of course you can look at used ones too, as long as you get to test them out to make sure they are working. Though you may want to ask about a warranty of some type even on those used models that you consider. Just in case you take it home and a week later it stops working, you would have lost whatever amount of money you paid.
